Posting here instead of tech board because we have more knowledgeable people here IMO.

So at seemingly random intervals, my desktop is now cutting off. Haven't checked anything internal yet, like the CPU. It's been years since I've pasted it, so it's possible I need to do that. But I haven't really done anything to put a load on it IMO. So I'm wondering if I don't have a failing PSU.

Sounds like it is failing, yes

Might be dusty and needs a cleaning inside the case to open up air flow to reduce heat

Kind of what I'm thinking as well, thanks. Maybe I'll take it apart tonight and try to clean and see. Could try repasting if I get really bored.

Need a store open to get some duster though.

When you say cut off, do you mean reboot or flat cut off and you have to press the power button again?

Is it doing this only under load or is it also happening while idling?

Run HW Monitor to validate it isn't overheating. Could be a thermal paste issue. Could be PSU.

Actually think it might have been a loose cable from the PSU. Fingers crossed.

My GPU under heavy AI loads will do the same, i would start with bad 1. PSU 2. RAM 3. GPU(if it's failing under gaming)

CPU's are really good about throttling now. I've tested several with fan unplugged and nothing crashed, it would just throttle down to basically nothing.

I think it really was the cable. Ran a test session in iRacing and have rebooted many times now and no further issues. Fingers crossed.
