my solution, we need an actual chat room portion of the site, as gay and 1995ish as that sounds
the IMing can take place so everyone can read at their option, but serious topics can get a thread

Isnt the point of a "board" to have a bunch of discussions at once?

A very old run down board I used to frequent had a chat room set up. It was really easy and saved tons of space. It just takes the initiative of someone to set it up

No idea who dizerick is but I'm going to make assumptions now.
Someone has to clean out old threads. I don't know how TD works but most forums delete threads once they get old enough or archive them.
Tons of wasted threads= tons of wasted server space.
The thing is though, TD makes revenue from advertising. The amount they makes depends on page visits and such. So really as long as we're visiting TD for SOME reason, we're making chicken $$. Which is why Chicken secretly loves us.

I'm of the opinion that every board has its own little subculture and should be entitled to 1-2 IM threads a day so that everyone can BS without having to add people on facebook and such.
