it's not your tv or cables.you need to do what I said.I have a 1080i plasma and it wouldn't work right till I held the power button till it beeped a second time.

I'd definitely take meauxjeaux's advice here before going out and buying a cable. You will likely see some improvement with a new cable but meauxjeaux sounds like he speaks from experience and it will hopefully fix the crappy quality problem.

Daygo, what you're talking about is not unheard of (even neglecting the compression issue). Higher-quality equipment usually has pretty good Digital-Analog and Analog-Digital converters, and in these cases you won't see a significant difference in quality even with the HDMI cable.
