I love the campaigns and the achievements they made will make me play through 3-4 times and I can't wait.

I love the campaigns too and am a litte achievement whore. Ill probably play both equally till i get all the achievements. I enjoy doing the laso challenges so if anyone needs them i am down for it.
Im also ready to see how good everyone is after all the shite talking

In the first three games they were easter eggs that were hidden just to find. When you find them they would do something to make the game a bit more challenging by taking away the radar, making enemies throw more grenades or stonger, taking away the reticle, guns have less ammo when you pick them up plus some other stuff.
After halo 3 you didn't have to find themem, just turn them on. Its just mostly for campign scoring and achievements in the ones after halo 3

Some examples:
Iron - If solo player dies, level restarts. If co-op player dies, restarts at last checkpoint.
Fog - Motion sensor is disabled.
Thunderstorm - All enemies are promoted to the highest rank.
And there are others. Those are some of the gold skulls.
There are silver skulls which have humorous effects.
Grunt Birthday Party - headshots on grunts cause confetti explosions.
IWHBYD - adds humorous dialogue
There are 9 gold and 5 silver in Halo 3.
There are also skulls in Halo 2 which have a lot if the same effects.
