I’m still playing infinite almost daily and I still love the gameplay. I get that some may not like the equipment but it’s balanced well so I think it works
My major complaint is that they call it a live service game and there’s just not enough content for that
The two newest maps were a good addition but it should have WAY more. I get burned out playing because I’ll play the same map 3 times in 5 matches

I haven't played it in a while. Is it still lacking TDM?

There’s an unranked TS playlist. There’s still only the two ranked playlists (open and solo/duo). 343 sucks such a fat one. They had all the momentum in the world and their two biggest competitors had just dropped their worst installments in years and they fell flat on their face. It’ll probably be a good game by year 3, but the population will always suck now.

Maybe when forge is out and has some creative content made with it, the game will bloom again. I'd be fine with forge remakes of the top old maps with the new game engine. I would like to see game types that are throwbacks to the H2/3 era though. Limited to no equipment. BR starts. Original radar radius if radar is in the game type. Frags and plasmas. Consistent power weapon spawns, if not all weapon spawns. Not a big fan of rotating weapons on the weapon pads. Keep in mind I'm a middle aged frick head who doesn't want the things I once liked to change for the sake of change.

We tried to warn y’all. Halo is dead as it is.

Simple yet reasonable ideas that 343 will never do

Speaking on map designs. My brother and I were talking about how Halo has changed since the implementation of sprint. It's like, since sprint and faster movement in general has been added to the game, the maps have taken a hit. I feel like it's due to a lack of verticality and deemphasizing skill jumps. It's almost as if they've begun to design wider, more open horizontal play spaces to justify the increase in movement due to sprint. And as such, vertical map design has taken a back seat.
Think about Lockout from H2. It, like many fun Halo maps, is a small - medium sized map with 3 layers. The distance from one end to the other isn't very long. You didn't need sprint to traverse the map efficiently. Two or three well timed and placed jumps can get you from snipe 1 to snipe 3 in a matter of seconds. This allowed for great outplays and quick map traversal. Midship is another good example. Guardian is another example. Maps have lost that identity. They've lost power positions for the most part. High ground is no longer that important. Jumps are there but few are meaningful in the way the used to be. Maps are just overall crap compared to H2/H3. Sprint doesn't feel like it actually adds anything other than a way to traverse large open spaces quicker. In a game where large open spaces add nothing to the overall gameplay.
To prove my point that 343 cares nothing about map design, especially verticality and skill jumps, is just look at the recent previous update that they had to go back and revert, they took away a lot of the small spots on maps that could be used as jump points for skill jumps. "They weren't intended" was the excuse, and then the long time Halo community and pro players bitched about it heavily, to the point that 343 reversed the update. The team is clueless as to what makes Halo special. I really do hope some talented content creators come along and one up 343 with some forge maps. The game has such great potential at it's core. But the current leadership just doesn't fully get it. They only get a few parts, unfortunately just not the important parts.
Apologies for the long diatribe. I just hate to see such a great game go down so badly. Thankfully MS owns Halo and not a single studio. But if things don't get better with Infinite and/or 343, it might be another 6-7 years before we get another chance at a fresh, actual good Halo game. Or it may just be another flop. I might be too old to give a shite by then.
