I have played this on an off since release and decided to fire it up again after a couple of years. They must be doing really well, the expansions to get current are still $29.99 each and some times $24.99 on sale.
Still one of the most complete MMOs out there, PvE, PvP, WvW. Resource nodes can't be ganked. It has a gem shop but I don't even pay attention to it, it's not needed to enjoy the game. I have a level 80 in almost every class.

I enjoyed the leveling experience. More MMORPGs need to adopt the relatively flat leveling curve where you can level up many different ways, including just exploring the world map. I don't think the "horizontal progression" model is really built for me though.
The dungeons were a lot of fun, but it's a shame they were de-emphasized after a certain point.
I was never a fan of the combat. It's the way it is because the combat is built for large scale encounters and public events, but it always felt like you were attacking "through" an enemy.
When I got to the "endgame" I realized I didn't enjoy the gameplay enough for its own sake to continue through the living world content and the expansions.

One of the best all arounders ever. I don't play anymore, but played around release and for a bit after. I love the skill construction, classes, weapons, etc. Just a cool way to go about building your character.
And I thought they did the best job at allowing for creativity in PvP encounters. There were just so many ways to build relevant characters. I never felt I had to build a particular way from equipment to skills. Lots of different versions of each class were viable in PvP.
