Also, be mindful of “old” guides, defined as anything before the DLC and major patch. For example, lots of guides will tell you that armor sets are cosmetic only, which used to be true. Now, each armor set gives percentage bonuses to one or two stats and one or two traits, the latter as a full set bonus. As an example, the set I’m wearing gives 30% bonus to resonance as well at a set bonus of 18% each for two traits that synergize with a parry build.

Looking at SteamDB, it goes on sale every one to two months, and it last went on sale just under a month ago. Obviously other platforms may vary.

Never played it, but I’ve watched a couple of streams. It’s not really my art style, so while it’s not a no for me, it’s further down my backlog list.

Tried the demo of 1 earlier. Felt like super ghouls and ghosts, but with parrying, and shittier graphics. Not a buy at $25. Maybe 2 for $15 is worth it.

It’s one of those games that has a small, very eager following, but most other people kinda bounce off it. Not because it’s hard, but just because it doesn’t grab them.

Quite an endorsement. Beating the first boss in the blasphemous 1 demo was pretty satisfying I admit. Definitely wanted to continue, but not at $25

And from what I gather, the more steeped you are in knowledge of Catholicism, the more it will resonate with you.

some dude on r/truegaming posted this huge writeup about how Blasphemous was most depressing game he's ever played, how it drug down his experience, yada yada. Big ol writeup

Nothing he said was wrong, but I loved it for the very same reasons he hated it

Haha every time something on my wishlist went on sale recently, I checked to see if Grime was reduced, and it never was

And very nice! They are a good introduction to the changing mechanics of each boss fight.

Got my arse kicked by a deer and some underwater bs in gloomnest, and a giant rock in lithric. Gonna move on to the festering lair.

Did meet the world pillar NPCs, so thats useful.

Worldpillar is going to be your hub for a while. Don't sleep on weapon upgrades once you know what you want to use. Though you'll be drowning in bloodmetal after a while, so don't stress over it too much.

Any questions I can answer or advice I can give?

Oh, one thing: Shidra is going to give you a couple of quest markers. One of them is down in either the Garden or somewhere like that in the bottom right. Don't do that. You come back for it later. You won't have the abilities to navigate it properly, so unless you're looking for a challenge in an attempt to sequence break the abilities you get access to, I wouldn't advise it.

If you do, well, just be forewarned

Nah, not yet

Shidra sent me bottom left to the festering lair. Gonna take that route

Yep, go there, then the road to the east of the Worldpillar will no longer be blocked off. Do that next.

Started NG+ today. Only about 30m in, but I’m really enjoying it. You keep everything, all items, skills, etc, but the world resets. More interestingly, every enemy, from bosses to the most basic mobs, all get new attacks. I’m looking forward to it.

Feels like this could be the gold standard to me for metroidvanias. Really enjoying the combat and jump puzzles. And the consumables

Strength build with unformed slab and boulder head set for health.

The high risk high reward absorb system is fun as well.
