Transformers make a lot of money. Doesn't change the fact the movies are garbage.

Lol if something ain't good, nobody is going to play it. Continually updating, refreshing, community support, mechanics, replayability, and skill gap (goals/growth) make a good game.

Things like TWD game is a good interactive story. The story game is designed for you to win. PvP Style games are not designed to win but to compete.

Completely different and that brings up a question. Should GOTY be separated into PvE and PvP?

I don't think so. I can think of a few FPS's that could have (or were) GOTY based soley on multiplayer, MW2 and BF3 being the top examples.

IloveMusic and HuFlungPopo I do agree to a certain extent.

Imo RDR2 is awesome. So was GoW but not an all time great that stays with me. It hasn't done the Bioshock, HL2, Witcher 3 thing where it consumes me.

It shouldnt be a default to put GoW, Spidey and RDR2 as default GOTYs and past on just Multi-players.

But Multi-players are so cute and paste that they need to change the industry like PUBG. Fornite I guess did it but not in it's release year.

WoW and Destiny you listed. I'm sorry but WoW isn't a good MMO once you played a good one like City of Heroes. Destiny as GOTY? This is a troll I hope.

But I do agree with most of your points. The movie comment is absolutely ridiculous though.

Sorry but bad line of thinking. We see it all the time.

So y'all are critics just like rotten tomatoes and contradict the audience score because it's more "independent" and "artsy." Got it.

You can't assume popular is good. Yes I am a critic, my own critic. I can be objective which idk you are doing.

I was just naming games popular on twitch typically at the top which are typically competitive PvP.

Replayability is IMO one of the most important aspects of a great game. Single players are far too often one and done.

Agree.

I think we are all on the same page for the most part but missing each other's points in the proper sequence of comments.

Went back (this thread is soooooooo long), and you're pretty much being reductive about what goes into a single player focused game because it's not your preference.

Y'all single player crap annoys me. Go get in your moms basement and leave the violence, speed, and momentum to us.

So it's let's make a story about picking up different loot.

Just go watch a movie.

Yes and ?

But should multi players be rewarded for cut and paste formulas? They should be held to a higher standard.

Totally depends on the game. For me, Horizon was last years GOTY, and I've been really wanting to dive back in, but with my limited gaming time and knowing what else is on my backlog, I probably won't any time soon.

If a SP focused game can hold your attention from beginning to end, it's winning. But there's been a ton that I couldn't get back into because either the surprises were gone or I just knew about grindy or boring parts and I wasn't as interested. Or simply I knew I couldn't recreate the same experience again and didn't want to ruin it. Bioshock Infinite is the perfect example of that to me.

Good is relative though. I'm arguing some points that I think are a great game and other people are arguing for another.

I'm going to be bored AF after repeadily worrying about if I got all the loot or stories done in order To get to the next boss.

You say MP is cut and paste, does this sound familiar?

Start as a no skin, get name, class, and hair style

Go through training phase

Boss is introduced but is way too powerful

Have to go through story lines to figure out some secret to take down boss

Aquire an item that can or get strong enough

Fight boss and win

Very much so. Very much.

But

Your main argument is "popular" so has to be good or Twitch viewers.

Hearthstone, LoL, DoDA are top charters but certainly not GOTY material. But SC and SC2 was GOTY material because it changed the genre and created scenes.

Damn you can't be more wrong.

Telling a story isn't about that formula and that is an old formula.

I think you were missing the part where I said I was pretty much trolling on those.

My argument in bare bones is that single players should not default to GOTY. There are other people who would rather play MP.

so reductive

I get your preference for one type of game, but I'll argue that most games that come out are pretty formulaic. What separates it is the content and style you use to fill that box. MP games can rise or sink based on progression systems, is there a carrot on a stick that's going to drive me? Are the guns fun to shoot and is there a good variety? Single player is won or lost with writing and setting, and can sometimes get away with not so pleasant game mechanics (what I'm hearing alot about RDR2).

I'm a well documented Ubisoft and Bethesda fanboy. You can take that basic formula, cookie cutter, but have them writing the narrative and creating the world, I'm in every time.
