Not even worth it at $999. Performance uplift isn't worth the cost more than a regular 3080 at MSRP.
Cost per frame basically always gets worse as you move up the stack. Value becomes a function of how far off the expected line you get. The 3070 is a better value than the 3080. The 3080 was always going to be a better value than the 3080ti. But this is just silly, outside of acknowledging that Nvidia has decided to get in on the scalp.

The EVGA website is getting hammered right now. Just got a page that said the "website is currently at full capacity"

To a point yes, value gets worse as you go up the product stack, and it really depends on your use case.
But the MSRP for the 3080 is $699. The 3080ti is $1199 MSRP.
You're paying literally $500 more more a 3-5% uplift in FPS. Its a bit ridiculous, and a money grab at this point by Nvidia because they KNOW that people will buy these cards at any price.

We are agreeing with one another. Our only difference of opinion is that while I don’t think a $999 3080ti would be as good of a value as a $699 3080, i don’t think it would be outside the realm of reasonable for price per frame that high in the stack.
We both agree a $1,199 3080ti is silly

Price per frame is such a dumb way to look at cards in non-budget realm

People want performance, like me, to be able to get maximum frames at the resolution they desire.

So, yes and no.
If money truly doesn't matter, then sure. Buy the best card (currently a 3090) every six to 24 months. When a new best card comes out, replace it. Do that forever. ???. Profit.
But for most people, it's a balance. For some of those people, price to performance matters the most. They are going to buy the best value card they can afford, and keep it for as long as they can. But that's not really enthusiast space, so let's ignore those people for the sake of this conversation.
Instead, I'll speak from personal experience.
I can absolutely afford to buy a 3090 (or equivalent) every year or two, based on release schedules. But with all the other things in the world to spend money on, is that really justifiable for me? No, probably not (and especially not without getting serious fricking side-eye from my wife...). Now, at my level of income, I can absolutely justify getting a 3080 equivalent every year. It's still objectively a bit silly, but yolo.
And then you have the people just below me, which I think are probably the most interesting. Those are the people who can either stay in the middle every year, or shoot the moon but then have to skip a generation. Or said another way, they could afford a 2080ti, but they couldn't afford a 2080ti and then a year or so later buy a 3090. It's either/or. So, for those kinds of people, are they better off sticking around the 3070 (on the low end) or 3080 (on the higher end) and upgrading more frequently? Or are they better off shooting the moon every two or three years and holding?
I believe reasonable people can disagree on that, but I would fall firmly in suggesting the former over the latter.

Guess I can kiss that shot at a 70ti goodbye, apparently the only way to land an 80ti was to be in line by 6-7pm yesterday. frick all that
And there’s several of them on FB marketplace here for $2500-$3000 already. I hate people.

My local store never gets shite, but I'm gonna try. I'm sure if they got anything, BB employees would have sent out the bat signal to their friends and they're all gone.
