Not only not moving but you can't be defending either.

Forgot to ask this earlier, but has anyone else gotten to experience the glorious sidequest involving Gladiolus' favorite food? It's fantastic

haven't gotten to it. I may have just burned out because I played it all of Friday and Saturday. I spent probably 12 hours playing final fantasy 7 when I intended to just frick around for about an hour

Yea I dunno, I don't blame you. I have only played 8 hours or so thus far but I just don't like 15. Story is non-existent so far (although it is supposed to improve right?), typical open world run a mile to a marker on a map fetch side quest, the sleep for level up mechanic seems unnecessary etc etc.

I will finish it because I always do with FF games and I can see why people are enjoying it but it is not for me.

I'm 25 hrs in, Chapter 3. I've been taking the side quests and main story quests as they are listed by level, backtracking when I pick up new side questlines that are lower. So I've been working my way from lowest to highest. My characters are lvl 35 and I'm on lvl 19 about to hit the next main story quest.

However, I've noticed that it's best just to do as many as possible without resting so I try to string together like 20k exp before sleeping at the 1.5X hotel in Lestallum for 300gil.

Tips for everyone starting out:

Don't be afraid of the night! You can easily run away from fights!
The frog side quests can be difficult(was for me) I learned to listen for the sound of the frog rather than looking directly for them.

Side quests are your friend! Explore explore explore, fish fish fish! But also, the landscape will kinda let you know where you don't belong. i.e. fences, rockwalls, etc.

Lvl 10-20 rest when you get 10k exp amassed. lvl 30- 20k or more.

Of course, hit every outpost, town, eatery, and pick up all locations early on so you can abuse the fast traveling system. I'll travel out in the car and then zoom back to town when I get enough quests done.

Hope this helps! I didn't know about wait mode, I just assumed it was that awkward phase before fights sometimes. Thanks guys. I've even put AP into wait mode stuff..I'm an idiot.

I like the story but the nuts and bolts of it aren't always clear and when they do give you context it's poorly done. That's an area in which X excelled because it had a fish out of water protagonist.

I like 15, i think FF is finding its modern identity, but the story is something that's been lacking since X

The story is relatively cohesive until about halfway through the story. You'll know when it starts to get a bit disjointed, because there'll be a pretty obvious question that you'll have about a certain plot point. I'll save you all the trouble and tell you that it never gets answered. Rumor is that it will be explained in one of the DLCs, but I feel like it shouldn't have to be.

After that though, it turns into a mess. I was thinking about it last night after my couple of posts and I have so many questions that were just never answered or even addressed again.

cant be more disjointed than 13...I think the bigger problem with their storytelling is that they don't bother with minor details and so the story appears disjointed. strip a lot of the exposition out of x (which is a super convoluted story, but a cohesive one if you take the time to listen)and I would say that it makes no sense.

the basic premise is easy enough to understand and definitely pulled from previous entries but the way they relay it to you makes it feel elusive if not perplexing.

I'm on chapter 3, level 20. I really enjoy the combat and the overall loop of the game. It's one of those "I'll just do one more thing" type of loops. It's a fun game.

But the side quests suck. Just run and give a chocobo a potion, etc, etc. I may just concentrate on hunts for the most part from here on out.

And the story is incoherent/non-existent. Obviously not a perfect game by any means, but I keep wanting to come back to it.

Edit: I will probably watch kingslaive and maybe that will help with the story. Although in general I don't think a game should have to rely on something like that.

The sell on Kingsglaive and Brotherhood was that the game was so "vast" that it needed supplemental media to fill in the back story.

You know how the Japanese are about minimalism though.

pretty much my take on it.

it's a good game that has a huge reputation to live up to while also redeeming that reputation.

I think once I get to the second half where the story picks up and is linear I'm going to be glad because no telling how many hours I would have pumped into the game by the time I get to that part.

it's disappointing because i think this game is a step in the right direction, but then the next release is a senseless remake

the only reason to remake FF7 is that they'll make a shite zillion dollars and then they'll undoubtedly make an online game nobody wants, and then a sequel to 15...i wish they'd focus on making new entries and getting things back to the level of greatness they once achieved. There was a time when that level of quality was routine for them.

i like 15, but it's hard not to grade it on a curve which enhances my opinion of it.

It's a weird game in the sense that it has obvious glaring problems, but it's just fun and addictive. Personally I've played a lot of games that are objectively better, but there aren't many games that I've put this many hours into in a short period of time

Yeah. It's a good game. it may not be fair, but it gets stacked up against some of the greatest games ever made because those games are also called final fantasy

Additionally it follows what's easily the worst entry in the series (13) so in some spots it gets the benefit of lowered expectations while at other moments it suffers from high expectations

In the end I like it, but if this is to be the best the series has going forward...that's a bad thing

It is not the best going forward. They will learn from this one and progress. They even changed a bit from the duscae demo because of fan feed back. To the point the even released a patch for it.

The reality is...you can't please everyone. The disaster that was 13 in many people's eyes gave us 15. Why? Because square is listening. They are butt hurt that the west has produced great games recently and they want to reclaim that throne.

well they obviously addressed the linear complaint

the real problem with that is, x is just as linear and yet is regarded as perhaps the best game in the series...the difference is that x made it feel bigger by making the world feel alive, with things to see...and along the way these things were explained to you and they all gave the story context.

but credit where it is due...they did indeed correctly addressed the #1 problem of 13 fantastically...it definitely is a limit break the world feels alive and real...and I don't think anyone will have the complaint that it is too linear my only gripe with it is that rarely if ever is it used to service the story

I will warn anyone and everyone not to listen to this.

Unlock the ascension perks that grant XP and AP for riding in the car and NEVER fast travel. You will farm the shite out of it and the loading screens for fast travel take for freaking ever.

I have not noticed bad loading times at all? Maybe it is because I am on the Pro?
