Factorio - Never thought I'd love a game like this.

Wow, this game. I'm hooked.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/427520/Factorio/

Popped up as a featured game on steam. Free tutorial. Tried it out. The demo was cool, but I wanted to start from scratch in an open world, so I bought it.

Holy crap. This game is amazing.

I've put over 100 hours into it already. Playing through it for the first time I didn't look up the best and most efficient ways to do things, so it was very sloppy and inefficient, but also the most fun. They call this a "spaghetti base" (because your belts and tracks are so messy and going every-which-way).

Anyone else play it? (search didn't find anything)

I'm actually worried about starting it because it doesn't look like a time sink for me. But, after getting hooked in by Rimworld and this is supposedly "worse" in some ways - way too dangerous.

I'll probably be playing RDR2 until the end of the year.

It doesn't have to be a time-sink. You can easily play for 10 minutes and get something accomplished. However, you won't want to stop.

I refuse to play that game ever again. You will lose hours in a blink.

Indeed. I love how they accept that the end game’s scale is grindy and built in the ability to build robots to do all the work for you.

Just plop down a blueprint from a previous build (or imported from the web) and they’ll construct it for you (assuming you have the components.

YESSSSSS the construction and logistic robots are my absolute favorite part of the game. Dropping down a blueprint and watching them SPAZ out to build it is so amazing satisfying.

Once you want to try something a little different, try your hand on Oxygen Not Included.

It’s made by Klei, the same people who made Don’t Starve.

It’s a survival sim in space, kinda a cross between Dwarf Fortress and The Sims.

Putting the finishing touches on my base cooling system using.....toilet water.

Satisfactory is almost the same game but first person and in three dimensions. Instead of having to build out all the time you can build up

Factorio is just incredible.

I wish I understood the circuit network stuff better, but I have about 400 hours in it.

I do like it a lot more than Satisfactory.

I’d definitely look at some guides online. Some of the wiring configurations are brilliant. I make a memory latch logic check to break the hysteresis that can sometimes occur if you have a large battery bank/switching between various power sources.

Or if you want to generate emergency power sub sections. For example, my nuclear power plant disengages from the main grid below a certain battery threshold to reserve some power for the centrifuges and inserters if needed. Once you get in the gigawatt scale factory you have to be careful not to run dry. It can take a bit of a kick to restart that engine, even with nuclear.

If nothing else it’s on such a large physical scale you might get a wall breach before you get the lights back on.

Perimeter will have to be held by gun turrets alone.
