External Hardrive for Xbox S

Is there certain one specific for it, or will any work? I bought one for my Xbox one a few years ago. Wondering if there was a difference?

Just about any should work for storage or to play older Xbox ONE/360 games but to play Series S and X games you need to use the proprietary MS Xbox drives designed for those systems.

You can actually use a cheaper one now that's not the official Xbox one. I think it's a WD_black one that comes in 1tb. But yeah you can also use a regular external one but can't quick resume those games. I have an older 2tb one on my series x and just move the games I'm not planning on playing for a bit to it and move them back when I want to play them. You can also just delete them and they still exist but redownloading takes longer than just moving them.

External drives only work for storage. Can't play games off of them. Have to go with the Seagate or WD expansion card.
The Seagate is currently 28% off on Amazon

This is true, but I bought an 8TB external hard drive for my games and haven't purchased the expansion card at all. I had a 4TB external drive for my XBox One and upgraded when the Series X came out.
All it takes is moving a game from the external drive to the internal drive when you want to play it. It doesn't really take long at all and you can get a lot more storage for much less money than the expansion card.
Here's a link to an 8TB drive on Amazon that is selling for the same cost as the 1TB expansion card LINK

I could see that being a very good solution for someone with slow internet, but with a 7200rpm HDD being (at least to my recollection, it’s been ages since I looked at it) the rough equivalent of a 1gig fiber connection, wouldn’t most gamers start seeing some pretty quick diminishing returns regarding moving files versus simply downloading it again?
