I did some targeted Google searches (since the TD search is janky AF) and didn't see a dedicated thread on this one, but a few folks had mentioned Ender Lillies as a solid recommendation in other threads. If there is a thread, maybe I missed it.

I've only been playing for a couple of hours, but am really enjoying this one. (I just completed the Elder Warrior boss fight on the bridge that gives you the Giant's Hammer downstrike ability, so I'm pretty sure I've encountered the first significant backtrack w/ new skills portion).

All in all, this has been a solid entry into the genre, especially when it's similar enough to Hollow Knight to pay homage, but different enough not to be a petty rip-off. SOTN is my all time favorite game, so new wrinkles on the tried & true formula are always welcome.

Got through the first 2 areas, really enjoying it so far. Playing on PS5.

So many great Metroidvanias out there right now

I platinumed this one.

Had a lot of fun and some of the bosses are definitely tough.

Don’t know why this term gets on my nerves. I propose as an alternative “Sonatas” since Symphony of the Night is the king of the genre.

The term is clunky, but it's my favorite genre going.

Arguably, if we are being accurate, Metroid & Blaster Master were the first two that really had the format dialed in.

It gets on my nerves for the exact opposite reason. Castlevania shouldn't be anywhere in the name. Why should SotN get credit for something Metroid was already doing? The king of the genre will always be Super Metroid.

I haven't played Super Metroid since it released, but the Inverted Castle of SotN will always be the greatest VG twist in history, IMO.

One thing that sets EL apart is the details on the map screen. The color-coding for Complete/Incomplete areas is nice. Now, did you miss a +5 HP fragment, or was it a hidden entrance to an entirely new zone? Gotta go back and see.

The red eye barriers to certain underground portions are the next thing I hope I can get the ability to move through. I just got the Witch's Bubble, so I'm currently backtracking and revisiting earlier zones to make sure I got everything.

Clarification - the brighter red eye blighted ground can be defeated by doing the downward strike from higher up.

Took me forever to figure that out.

I kept thinking that there was an upgrade I was unaware of.

That part is not intuitive at all.
