Elite Dangerous Newbies

Anyone else here playing Elite Dangerous? I bought it months ago, played the tutorials for about 2 hours, and thought, "screw this." The learning curve seems crazy, since there is no guidance on game mechanics, fighting, etc.
Bought a hotas setup and tried it again. Really liking it this time, though I'm terrible at fighting. Screwed up and took 12 million in missions to Colonia when all I had was a Cobra MkIII. 3500 or so jumps later I was back in the bubble. That was brutal. Finally got an Asp X and Python and found the srv's are awesome.
If anyone is playing this and wants to wing up, let me know. I've only seen one human in 200 hours of playing the game, lol.

I have been stuck without fuel more times than I care to say.

You have to go to the right places. There are clusters of planets with still pretty big human player populations.
I love that game. I used to do dog fighting, but I sold everything I had and made a stealth smuggling/pirate ship. It's fun.
That's and City Skylines are my two favorite current PC games.

I'm planning on building out an aspx and trying to join the fuelrats. Seems like a fun occasion activity.

Well, most of that was cause I ignorantly decided to make that 20,000 LY trip to Colonia, but it doesn't bother me too much since I'm still learning and any non-npc I meet is likely to attack (griefer) or try to pirate cargo.

There really isn't much too the game, but it feels like there is because something as simple as landing in a space station is a multi-step process.

I wish there was more randomness to the stations. You got your blocky small station and the big spinny one. Nothing is very distinctive.

I love it.
I want to start mining asteroids.
I recently piddled around Arcturus. It was fun.

I bought it a few months ago.
I found it very repetitive though.
Set a destination, warp speed, dodge big arse sun, repeat.
I also didn't understand why you couldn't have a linear path to a destination. Like a system could be literally right above you, but you had to zigzag all over to get there.
Maybe I didn't give the game enough time? Also, this was the base game with no DLC.

I got the season pass which has a whole lot more.
I can see how you think the game is repetitive but this is the layout of the game: You can go any star in the Milky Way Galaxy...and you can become anything you want to become in outer space.
Good. Bad. Bounty hunter. Miner. Transport vessel. You name it.
That's pretty fun!

The Horizons DLC changed the game for me. The SRV's are a blast.

You can only jump a certain distance. It depends on your drive, weight, fuel, etc. It may be right above you on the map, but if it's 100 light years and your jump range is only 20 you have to make at least 5 jumps. The path won't be linear to reach those two points because you need to jump to other stars in between.

Horizons is an awesome addition to the game.
I wish there was more customization with the SRV's like there is with the ships.
I still just enjoy going on assassin missions, bounty hunting, data running, and illegal cargo missions.
And last night I entered a high combat zone and ran into two ships that dwarfed mine. They looked like giant Imperial star destroyers with little fighters all around them. Had a blast dog fighting them for a while.

I want to like it and play it but it's going to be way too large of a timesink for me. 2 hours and I barely get anything done

This would be true. It's a grindy game, but in a chill sort of way.
