I'm not looking to spend $180 for the HD60S. I've found the older HD on ebay for about $80-90. Is this a good capture card?

I have the old GCHD (top pic) and I can confirm that it is a very good capture card. The only console that gave me any problems was the Switch for whatever reason. Sometimes it randomly cuts off for a second a two, but that happens very rarely. Not sure if it was due to a problem with my capture card or maybe the HDMI from the Switch though.
It also has the added benefit of basically working with pretty much every old school console. Can't say the bottom two do.

how does it work with live streams and overlays? doesn't elgato have it's own software that can stream directly to the twitch?

The live streams are fairly simple to do. Within the recording software there is also an option to stream (or do both if you want to go that route). You can link your streaming accounts to it (Twitch, YouTube, custom url, etc.) as well as adjust the streaming output and other settings.
As far as overlays are concerned, there is an option somewhere to set them up as well. I know there are like 10 of them plus making your own custom overlays, but I can't say I am that well versed on the matter.
But yeah, overall I think the price is pretty justifiable for what you are looking for. Obviously you just need to play around with the settings to find what works best for you, but just know it's very easy to utilize the software for your intents and purposes.

The older game captures are shite. At least get one on the HD line
Pretty sure the game capture HD is 1080p30fps while the HD S/HD 60 is 1080p60fps

Then look at my second line for the differences

I'm assuming I don't need one for a single pc.

Negative. Only if you have a secondary streaming PC or want to stream console play
