I love this game, but I have absolutely no idea how anything works in the end game (i.e., builds, recalibration station, etc.).
Once I finished Warlords of New York, I just gave up.

You'll want to farm the Skyscraper with a team with your focus on that gearset. If your teammates are nice, they'll drop you what you need. Can get a full set very quickly.
ETA: What are you playing on? I haven't played in a long time but I can't imagine it changing too much.

I play co-op but I only have two friends that play D2 and they are hardly on. I matchmake everything. Game is 1000x more enjoyable with a full squad.

Hunters fury and strikers are two very popular gear sets that are easy to use. The summit and countdown (both free to play) allow you to actively “select”
those as loot. I’d recommend you farm there.
