That was me a few days ago. Now I'm a man.

man, I'm getting my fricking arse whooped this go-round.
It's great, isn't it?
I started playing a bit last night and wanted the balder side sword, which is my favorite weapon in the game. It always takes me forever to farm that thing with 10 humanity and the gold serpent ring, and I get a drop as soon as I get to the church.

Dark Souls 1 is probably top 5 games of all time for me. Up there with old Zelda's and FF games. I feel like it really captured some of the magic thats been lost from old school NES and SNES games. Probably in most part because its insanely hard and rage inducing. Makes me feel like im 10 again slamming my controlled down. So you leave it for a few hours, maybe a day....feeling like a bitch, but it doesnt leave your mind because its hardly ever unfair with you......and you just CANT stop until you beat that motherfricker that killed you because you know you CAN. It gives you JUST enough to keep you going because when you actually DO kill that guy or clear that level, you feel like you actually accomplished something instead of having your hand held like a toddler.
Couple that with one of the darkest, bleakest worlds ever built and the sense of adventure and immersion that I got was almost unparalleled. Diving into The Depths filled me with a palpable sense of dread the deeper I went and not seeing the sun for hours upon hours was so oppressive that when you finally see it again you can't help but praise it. Knowing it sounds way ghey, its almost spiritual sometimes and I didnt even really get into the story. No other game has ever given me that feeling and im a 34 year old man.
I could go on and on extolling the various other virtues such as combat mechanics and the bonfire/soul system, the ingenious online messaging system.... but Ill stop. Some people love it and some people hate it. Neither is wrong. But in my opinion, for the people that can tune in to its frequency, its kinda the pinnacle of what games can be.
To the OP. I got my arse lit up all the way through Undead Parish. I didnt even know you COULD summong for the Gargoyles and I died at least 20 times. It was horrifying.
...but then I fought the Capra demon and Ornstein/Smough.
Anyway, keep rolling and know that if you quit you will forever live in shame.

I've never tried using it. love longsword +15 and great scythe +15 (scythe is great for pvp). it's always so hard not to go Lightning Zweihander

this faith build is totally new territory for me

I've never felt so hopeless and defeated as i have from playing Ornstein and Smough. It took like a week and a half my first playthrough haha. i refuse to do any coop/npc summons for my first souls/borne playthroughs. it was quite the task. i probably rolled once through my whole first playthrough. i was full tank in havel's set + dragon tooth. so stupid

Well said
Completely agree.
My only complaint is things sort of ... aren't as fluid or nice after anor londo.
Ornstein and smough, painted world, dark anor londo and gwyndolin were fantastic. .but then....
New londo is just ok. 4k is uninspiring.
Seeth and his zone kinda sucks.
Ceaseless discharge and his zone kinda sucks
Gwyn is easy
Bed of chaos is terrible.
Tomb of giants could of been better. Gravelord nito and pinwheel are lame
It's still my favorite game ever but the first half is miles ahead of the 2nd half IMO

Seriously. Here we are in 2016 talking about and playing a game that came out in 2011. The thread is 8 pages. And this isn't the first time either.
What a game.
What a game.

Until you've naked solo'd O&S at level 4 with only a dagger, on a guitar hero controller, you're still just a filthy casual.

Don't forget to get baby Sif for Manus

yup. don't think anything will ever top my first playthrough. had a roommate in my dorm freshman year that was not a gamer at all. i go grab this and start playing after an intramural game. he looks and he's like "i love how they show the numbers when you hit them." he climbs out of bed and pulls up a chair. we played through the asylum and get to Firelink, just taking turns. the only path we see at first is the Graveyard. we try to get through there for 2-3 hours to no avail. we tried everything, with our most popular strategy being a push of the bones off the cliff so they couldn't respawn
we start making suicide runs. managed to get to the bottom and got smoked by the wheelies. we were like "ok frick this, we have to be going the wrong way." we find a set of stairs down to New Londo Ruins. we breathe a sigh of relief and agree that this is where we were supposed go.
...then got gangraped by the ghosts. we go back up and finally find the stairs to undead burg, where we start smoking everything. went to bed at 6am. so much wasted time going nowhere

i dread fighting sif every time. watching him swing that sword while hurt and limping

frick man....fighting artorias and getting my arse whipped before realizing in DSII that his strong arm is corrupted and he's using his weak arm

I could sit and fight Artorias all day. My favorite Souls character.
I'm a quitter, I always have been. Whenever things get too tough I throw my hands up and give up. It wasn't any different with this game the first time I played it. I got to the Tauras Demon and quit and told myself it just wasn't for me. I kept thinking about it and eventually picked it back up, got on youtube and saw how to beat the boss. I did it on my second try and it seemed like the game opened itself up and it was never as difficult again. It's like the game said, 'now that you understand, come on in.' Beating Gwyn and watching the credits roll was a great moment for me. It's a game that's taught me a lot about myself.

Kalameet. The only boss I've never solo'd.
