Decided to start 2. Going with a strength build with faith complement.

Made it to the Cardinal Tower before calling it quits yesterday. Not sure what to think yet.

Don't be that guy

Everyone bashes DS2 bc it's not DS1. It's a good game. It's not DS1 but it's still a good rpg on its own

By not sure what to think, I meant I was judging it on its own and not comparing it to the first.

You can't not compare it to DS1 or the other games though. There is a certain expectation when you put that name on it.

You have to try and enjoy it as its own thing. It has its faults (as does 1), but it's a great game and definitely worth playing through the end.

I've essentially cleared the Forest of the Giants. DS2 feels a little faster but that could be the change in build as well. Overall, it feels differently familiar. It's more Souls, and that's what I'm looking for.

It has a TON of build variety.

Dark Souls 2 thoughts...

I have logged about 10 hours and killed 8 bosses (through the gargoyles). It's a Souls game, just a different kind. It feels like From approached it with a "more must be better" mentality.

The weapon variety is pretty expansive although I've clung to my trusty starting mace. The areas are diverse but authentic. The changes to the stat system are confusing and unnecessary. I really don't like the changes there. Bosses, bosses, bosses...they're everywhere. Some are good, most have been underwhelming.

Overall, I am enjoying it. There have been some disappointments. But there have been some moments like the Pursuer, Lost Sinner, and gargoyle fights that gave me the Dark Souls rush.

Hey guys, finally back at it after Spring Break...

I last stopped in the Dark Forest. I beat the strong humans and ghosts there....and then I faced Sif.

I beat him on my first try!!! Is that normal?!

I have a dumb basic question: Leveling up weapons...

I have a +5 raw Halberd. How do I get that to a level +10 Halberd? What did I do to send it down the raw track when I just kept adding different forms of regular titanite to increase its power?

Take it to Andre and modify it back to +5. You have to have the large ember from the depths to get it to +10 - which requires large titinite. Raw takes away all scaling and does flat physical damage. Example: it's useful if you're a str build and make a raw bow, since you would have such low dex that it wouldn't benefit from scaling.

Nice.

Yeah sif is intimidating but his flaw is how easy he is to stay under. NExt time try waiting to fight him until AFTER you do the DLC. Its slightly different but changes the fight emotionally.

To turn it Raw I think you had to have used mundane titanite or something like that. The Halberd is actually what I used the entire time during my very first playthrough but I may be getting DS1 and DS2 mixed up with the weapon upgrades since its been so long.

OK thank you.

I just read up on Andre.

If I have a raw Halberd, doesn't he already have the large ember that I collected and gave him?

When you visit Andre, go to the Modify Equipment menu. From there, you can revert your halberd from raw to +5.

I honestly don't remember, probably. I don't think I've ever used raw.

I got a level 15 halberd!!!

And to do it I had to go face my old foe...Stray Demon. I finally beat the guy! Sif and Stray Demon in one day!

I also made it to the Four Kings in the New Londo Ruins. Pretty good! I'm going to need some help I can tell.

I beat the Four Kings! 3 tries. Did I count wrong...or was their 5?

The serpent gave me a choice, so I alt+tabbed out and saw the pros and cons of each and then alt+tabbed back in and clicked over and a...except it registered over as the active window confirmation and a as a...so i acidentally turned down the serpent! Haha.

After that I took on the Archives and went to the crystal cathedral to fight that ice dude that jailed me!
