Yeah.
Get the dlc. It's incredible.
Very important lore events occur in it.
And one of the toughest boss fights in any game ever (imo).
All 3 bosses are tough but one in particular is just insane

Crazy to think I am nearing the end of Dark Souls.
I think you've still got a ways to go...
New Londo
Ash Lake (did you return to it yet?)
Demon Ruins
Lost Izalith
Catacombs (or did you do this one already?)
Tomb of Giants
Royal Wood
Oolicile
Chasm of the Abyss
Kiln of the First Flame

Seathe down. First try. The Great Scythe is amazing.

Solid work.
I've been considering giving Ds2 a second chance. SotFS and the dlcs have been reviewed well. Maybe I chose a boring build (sorc)
Altho headls tower of flame sounds even worse on sotfs
And covetous demon sounds awful.
Shrine of amaya and earthen peaks and iron keep too.
Blah idk.

If you didn't like the base game, you're probably not going to like Scholar. The areas you listed aren't that bad and difficulty of Amana is overblown; just make sure to have a bow and it renders Amana and Iron Keep futile. The DLC is great and it has my favorite Souls boss. The game is still much easier than 1. I breezed through on a sl1 and didn't have trouble until the dlc bosses - which are only hard because of low agility (having less i frames).

I am heading to New Londo next. Once I get the four lord souls, I will tackle the DLC.
I am not sure if I will dive right into 2 or play something else as a break.

You've come so far
I'm needing a souls fix so bad I'm considering Ds2
yikes
If they'd hurry up and make ds1 backwards compatible I'd play that. (Peasant problems
)
This will be the longest month ever

My desktop background on my work pc is the Chosen Undead resting at a bonfire. It's a reminder to reflect on what I've accomplished, consider different approaches, push through, and relax. Nothing is as difficult as it first appears.

Dark Souls has seriously made me less of a quitter in life. Through all of the fantasy tropes, it's really just about picking yourself up and doing the best you can in an indifferent, cruel world. It's helped fight my delapidating depression, and I'll probably be emotional at the end of ds3.

See, I don't see Dark Souls as a hard game. Sure, I die a lot, but I die a lot in other games as well.
And just like every other game I know that I can beat it if I spend time learning how to beat an enemy, or upping some items or skills to help me win.
This is all normal in Pectus' gaming career.
Heck, I didn't beat Super Mario World until 2010. I've said that before on here too. The levels were just too hard.
The thing with Dark Souls is, I can always up my character, so in that respect it is easy. But it's also rewarding to beat and enemy and read a scripture on the ground pronouncing another's elation that they made it, because you know they dealt with the same boss.
I do have to say some of the best moments are spawning back at the last bonfire after a death and saying, I can do that better! Then promptly going the wrong way back to the boss. Or dying on the way there.

I know I was when I beat ds1.
Actually one of my favorite ds1 streamers is Jeff Green (YouTube user Greenspeak). I think he used to be a developer for Popcap games. Anyway, people always requested that he give Dark Souls a chance, and so he did. He went in blind, streamed the whole thing, and has uploaded everything to YouTube. It's pretty cool, because he starts out playing the game as a joke due to its perceived insane difficulty, and you see him get frustrated time and time again. And you see him slowly get won over by the game, and it becomes an obsession. But that moment where he finally solos Kalameet is just beautiful to watch. And then once he beats Gwynn it was actually emotional for him.
Anyway it's a great series to watch. He's got a great sense of humor, and just a fun personality all around.

Four Kings down. Great Scythe up to +15. One lord soul left to collect.

I'm already sad about it

I wouldn't say emotional. Maybe accomplished? And annoyed. I realized after the final boss I forgot about the DLC stuff.
But it was one of the best games I've ever played. The world, the boss fights, the shortcuts, everything was very well done. I am torn between jumping right in to NG+ or starting a new run with a different build.

Do a new build as a magic user.
Lots of different content and a much different experience overall.
Just my $.02
