COD4

I just started playing COD4 and am at a level 4. When I play, it seems like I am just getting absolutely waxed out there by players with 50 ratings. Is there a way I can play with people my own level or am I just doomed to get capped every time I respawn?

You'll get better, just keep playing. When I started I got smoked until I got up to the late 20's, then I started breaking even. One I got to the mid 40's I was having a blast smoking people. It's a right of passage, just deal with it.

Here's a tip a friend of mine passed down to me when I was getting smoked in the early going: use your M16 with Deep Impact and Stopping Power. Keep up with it so that you get the red dot sight. You should begin to get better more quickly with that gun/perk loadout.
Next, play games that get you a lot of points and kills: Headquarters, Ground War and Domination are three that can get you lots of XP and kills. If you play Headquarters, you may be better off using the MP5 with Deep Impact and Stopping Power for close quarters.
To be honest, using the M16 is how I got good at the game. It's definitely harder now, because everyone that plays knows the hideouts and knows what players like to do in each map. Good luck.

Just throw random grenades and follow the players with names like "XXXinsanesniperXXX" or such or the high pitched voices, they will show you where to camp and get sneak kills. Once you get the hang of it don't worry about the level 50 or multiple prestige guys, they just know where to hide better than you at that point.

mp5 is really easy to use with stopping power and the M16 depends on the map
youll get there

I was never great but I usually had 30+ kills to 10 or so deaths every round. BUT my friends use to play it all the time and we were in the same clan, which helped.

Its all about finding a good strategy. If you want to just run and gun, get a submachine gun with quick reloading. If you want to strategize a little more with an assault rifle, then stay a good distance and stay by cover and shoot. If you want to snipe, my personal favorite, stay on the move. Get a kill, then leave the spot, then eventually go back. My best advice to you is that no matter what you're doing, don't stick with the crowd, find your own way to sneak around and get kills. The best combo you can use at first is the m4 carbine with a red-dot scope. Easiest gun to use in the game.

good call jizzy. i'm getting the hang of sniping on cod4 but still suck. if i'm not sniping i usually go stealthy with a uav jammer and a silenced g36c.
to the original poster: just keep playing and familiarize yourself with the maps and find guns that you like. you'll eventually learn where campers and snipers hang out, find out what choke points to avoid, and figure out what guns and perks work for you on what level.
