Bravely Default 2 is too grindy

I've never played Bravely Default or Bravely Second, but I have played Octopath. My chief complaint with Octopath was how relatively little of the game was devoted to story as opposed to straight up grinding. I thought Bravely Default 2 would offer the same classic gameplay style but actually have a story that guides the players progress.
Lo and behold, I'm finding that progression is basically the same albeit altered just slightly. Go to a town, speak to NPCs, go through a quick dungeon, fight boss, return to town, repeat. Repeat the whole process again each chapter only with a new town and a new overworld map.
In no way are the enemies you fight along the way to each boss enough to keep you on level with the story content, and you level sooooooo slowly. The last two days have been me doing very little outside of just grinding battles.
The job system also seems to contribute to the grind from the perspective of it not seemingly like you can just stick with a job you like for the duration of the game. You're basically forced to level a lot of different jobs on each character so that you can ensure you have the right abilities for each boss encounter.

I almost bought this on impulse because I sometimes get nostalgic for snes era final fantasy games. I quickly regained my senses and realized those days are gone and squeenix will never be able to produce anything that will impact me on a similar level as the halcyon days of my youth.
They need to put enhanced editions of ff iv-vi on the switch so I can run through them and put this nostalgia demon to bed for good.

DQ11 is a much better approximation of what this series seems to be trying to do.

I downloaded the ds remake of FF IV on my phone awhile back and just finished it the other day. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it was pretty challenging. Second final fantasy I’ve beat playing on my phone, the other being FF I. I like to play on my downtime at work

I would give a testicle for this, but it needs to be on PlayStation too.
Those 3 are the best FF games and some of the best RPGs ever made.
Especially IV: Cecil/Kain/Rosa/Rydia/Edge GOAT

All traditional RPG are grindy by nature.

Depends on whether you want all the cool gear/spells and fight the super boss or just finish the story.
Back to FFIV because it’s the GOAT, you can beat the main story without much grinding at all but it takes a lot for postgame, which differs between GBA/PSP and DS.
