I read something this morning from a linked NG4 article that was Google translated...anyway, the title said the beta starts September 27. It's the first sign of a date I've seen, so take it for what it's worth.

I wish the MCOMM station objective stuff netted more points. 200 is weak.

You should add that BF3 will not run at full 720p on consoles. It's more like 704p. The resolution and frame rate could change lots of gamers' minds.

It's an objective, like arming a bomb. You start off as either attackers or defenders in the Rush mode (the alpha gameplay you see is Rush). There are two MCOMM stations to arm and blow up before you can advance to the next two MCOMM stations to blow up. And so on, for about three or four or sometimes five different MCOMM areas.

It's going to be a different type of game altogether. The only area that these 2 will compete in is sales (most important, some would say). But you'll get a different gaming experience with both, and I think if you embrace that, you can really enjoy both.
