I also got an invite (woo hoo)!! When I hit the RSVP button, I was given a specific 24 hr time slot of Sunday 5/25. Guess I know what I'll be doing all day Sunday!

Gonna see what the hoopla is about. I'll report back.

Played it a good bit on Saturday and it’s already better than 2042 in its current state

eta:

Still needs some things to change before it can get back to that bf3/4 level but it seems to be on a good path towards that.

Wasn’t a fan of the engineer being able to carry 2 different rockets or the assault class having 2 primary weapon slots, stims, and an anti vehicle gl.

Destruction looked good. You could really tear down some of the apartment buildings on the urban maps that were available to play. Can equip a sledgehammer to break stuff too.

Revive mech is awesome with how you’re able to drag someone to safety while reviving.

Sounds and visuals were solid. Had that gritty feel/atmosphere of bf3/4. Wish I had a pc code to really see the visuals but for base ps5 it looked really good in performance mode.

Gunplay and movement felt good. I didn’t get around to trying every weapon but the few I did were pretty easy to handle. Weapons have a recoil pattern but fairly easy to control. Adding attachments make it even easier of course. Movement felt similar to bf4 with a sliding mechanic. No the slide isn’t a crazy cod slide, there’s some weight to it and you’re not able to aim and shoot while sliding. Basically just an escape tool for getting behind cover or getting around a corner to reposition. Thought it was a good feature.

Each class has perk system tied to their kit. 4 levels with the last one giving sort of a special ability. Support one is kinda silly, you can heal people in a certain radius around you for however long it lasts. Minor and I can live with it but still silly.

Tl:dr It’s close but there’s some work to do. Assault class kinda op. Sounds and looks good. Revive mech is S tier. Fix a few things and add a server browser and we can be back like we never left with this one.

DownSouthCrawfish is dead on I felt pretty much the same way - the Alpha has me really excited for Battlefield again. Miles better than 2042 already.

They nailed the look and feel of the game with the sound, visuals and movement. The way they did attachments for the guns, having 10 pts to spend total with each attachment costing a differing amount of points - really well done!!

There are some things that need tweaking - too much noise with soldier callouts and chatter when you are near a bunch of people. And the classes need some tweaking - Assaults were broken but to be fair the map was infantry/gunplay focused. But still, Infantry has anti-vehicle AND self-healing via stims.

Can't wait for an open beta!!

I think one of the flaws of BF V & 2042 that really stick out to me, especially after playing Squad and HLL, is the inability to echo-locate enemy infantry or vehicles.
