Xbox isn't aiming for "fringe" consumers, and for the most part neither is PS4. They are going for premium consumers, ones who use all of their services. Military personnel who are deployed do not fall under that - anyone who purchased a console in the last generation and then made due with used games were lost revenue. Tying a lot of the features to the internet is a way to go for those consumers.

Because you aren't their target market. They want customers with 24/7 internet who buy new games and are willing to pay $500 for a overall entertainment console. Why?
Because that group of the market will likely be willing to spend $ on other XBL services, dlc, apps, and products.
not the consumer that just plays one single player game a year offline that they borrowed from buddy 6 months after release.
M$ knows they won't make any money off those cheap asses in the long run. So why put in any effort into pleasing them?
And yes, it sucks that our military is caught in the crossfire of that situation, but you've bitched quite enough about this topic.
Get the frick over it. Buy your PS4 and enjoy the shite out of it overseas.
