was trying to find news on a new donkey kong country (tropical freeze, while a masterpiece, is almost a decade old) and it looks like while it's somewhat in the works, it is likely to come out on the successor to the switch.

has there been any info on what this console might be like? i hope its basically an updated switch. i love being able to play handheld or dock w/ the pro controller. would also be tight if it had backward compatibility with switch games.

They're targeting a Sep 2024 release. I think that would buy them another 2-3 years for their next actual console.

My son told me about this a week or two ago and said that the Switch 2 should be about on par with the PS4 in terms of power/graphical capabilities. I'm not sure where he got this info but that's pretty cool if true!

I don’t believe any leaks concerning big Nintendo projects. Especially if it’s about a new console. They go fricking HAM on leakers in court and win most of the time

In this instance, most of the information about the "Switch 2" came out of the Microsoft FTC case when some confidential documents were released by the court without being redacted. It could certainly change, but those documents did list a 2024 target date.

ETA: This was relevant because of the FTC's argument that the Switch can't handle Call of Duty games in relation to Microsoft's deal with Nintendo to bring CoD to Nintendo consoles.
