We should be finding out this afternoon whether AMD has an answer to the RTX 4000 series. Live stream starts at 3pm CST, with I'm sure millions of articles and videos to follow.

Would be awesome if we get a 7600 for $299.

I hate that we have to wait for reviews to drop before we see any benchmark numbers.

If you believe what they are saying, performance at 4K, max settings is pretty good, I think. They are saying that the 7900 XTX will do 130+ frames on COD MWII (unless you uninstalled it already). I think I saw a $999 price tag on the XTX...This would seem like good value.

Like I said on the big thread, I'm cautiously optimistic, but I found the presentation to be a bit disappointing. I'm basically just going to try to pretend like GPUs don't exist until early next year and let the dust settle.

The RTX 4080 review roundup from today basically told us what we were expecting: great performance, shite value. You're basically paying at a 1:1 ratio for performance over a 3080, and the 4090 has a better frame per dollar value than the 4080. I'm sure they will sell out tomorrow, but I've gone from being a day 1 buyer before the announcement to possibly just skipping this entire generation and hoping things are better next gen. Though AMD can still woo me if their performance is good enough on the XTX. We'll see next month.

I'm pretty happy with where I am with the 3080. The 40 series would have to have decent price drops for me to consider upgrading. I'm perfectly ok staying a generation behind.

A couple of things to note: first, you said CPU. Could be a typo, but just want to make clear that what I wrote is discussing GPUs. Second, just because the 4080 is a bad value doesn’t make the 3090 a good value.

The cheapest new 3090s I’m seeing are all over $1,200. Unless you need the extra 8GB of VRAM for production tasks, the 4080 will significantly outperform a 3090 at roughly the same price point. I can’t think of a usage case in which I would be willing spend $1,200 on a 3090 instead of paying $1,600 for a 4090 or $750 for a 3080 instead.

sorry was being lazy. by CPU i meant for my new computer i plan on building soon.

i havent really started pricing anything yet and just assumed when i typed that statement that the 3090 would fit into a more economical viable space than any of the new 40 series cards. surprised to see thats not the case.

3080 it is!

If you are spec’ing out a build, also keep an eye on the new AMD cards next month.

i dont know a whole lot about the AMD cards, I've always gone nvidia for as long as i can remember.

what's your thoughts on how they stack up in general comparatively are there important features missing/gained from one to the other?

General suggestion? If it helps my machines are typically for the very rare occasional home office work then primarily gaming. Broad spectrum really. Little other media is of concern to me, with the exception of maybe wanting the new one to handle playing with VR as it evolves. Currently game at 1080p but would be looking to upgrade to 1440 (or 4k if i can be convinced there is actually significant quality upgrade at most monitor sized devices). i usually only try/desire to upgrade every 4-5 years. For example, the last major change to my current PC was swapping the GPU to the current 1070 which was then fairly new card for the market.

Hard to answer just yet, as while the 7900XT and 7900XTX (god I hate that nomenclature...) have been announced, we don't have any reliable benchmarks yet, and we likely won't until the second week of December. Just hold tight until then and see if you can grab something for black friday/cyber monday.

How good I am in the short term with my 3080 is probably going to be predicated on how hard they pushed settings in the Witcher 3 remaster

Beyond that, I think it will be another year or so (at least) before HFW and GoW:R get released on PC. Maybe Forespoken or Hogwarts Legacy before then?

Though I'm sure I'm missing something.

i was more curious to the 30 series geforce compared the the similar generation amd cards. But you are correct that i shouldnt assume the same results for this generation.

Comparing RTX 3000 to RX 6000, AMD has a better performance per dollar ratio than Nvidia in normal rasterization loads. Nvidia is the clear leader in raytraced loads. Just depends on which is more important to you. Both lines have very solid cards.

Haha happy help anyone, from parts list, to builds, to high end post-build OC/UV/etc.

Tons and tons of videos online, but honestly, I like Jayztwocents for nuts and bolts beginners.
