I'm looking for a really good quality dried tarragon. Any recommendations?

Epices de Cru offers an Israeli tarragon or one grown in Quebec: LINK

Or La Boite a Epices: LINK

Or good ol' Penzey's or the Spice House.

Thanks. I didn't have any in my garden this year and I haven't found a dried one that I really like.

Gris,

Doesn't your local Fresh Market or Whole Foods or Rouse's have any fresh? I see it at Kroger's here, which means you should be able to buy it anywhere - or that is what I would think.

We don't have any of those stores near me. I see it fresh on occasion, but I'm looking for a good dry brand right now to have on hand when I suddenly want tarragon. Thanks, though.

We have purchased from these guys in the past.

Spice house

I probably posted a link to them a year or three back. Good selection and the quality was good. They have a promo now to give a free jar of cinnamon with an order.

I think the tarragon was $5.00 a jar. Half cup size. That actually is very good pricing.

What type of tarragon are you looking for? Mexican(my favorite), French, or Russian?

I grow Mexican and have it coming out my ears. You can't beat the flavor of fresh tarragon as it loses its flavor fast when dried. Fiesta Brands has a pretty good dried Mexican.
For French, try Frontier Co-op.

French or Mexican.

Does yours grow all year? I had some last year, but it didn't last very long or get very thick. I think I had about 3 plants.

Mexican grows very well here. Only a hard freeze will kill it and it comes back in spring. Careful as it will take over.

I grew Mexican this year. It is considered a tender perennial. A freeze will kill it back but it will come back in the spring. Replace the plant with a new one every third year. Mulch it well in the winter and leave about 3-4" of the stems above ground level after a freeze.

I would love that. I can grow a lot of good herbs, but for some reason, I can't get mint to grow well, much less take over a spot. Have no idea why.

Lemon balm, however, is another story.

I'll look for the Mexican this Spring. I think that's what I had before, though.

I prefer the flavor of the French to the Mexican. The Mex kind is like a weed in the garden once established. It gets very woody & leaves can be a bit tough, so you've got to mince it finely.

Those parts work well for fall freezing.

You should only be cutting the young green part of the shoots anyway. that way you can control the growth a bit and it will develop a better bushy habit.

I too prefer the French Tarragon but it's too temperamental to grow here, therefore Mexican is what I grow. Mexican has a more aggressive flavor so I just use less.
