Veronas. Very solid. Probably won’t wow you but it’s quality and they actually try over there. Owner is from Italy and staff is very nice.
Bellinos. Used to be very good. Good atmosphere. Went down during covid. Think it’s back open on Fridays and Saturdays. No idea if it’s still good but worth a shot.
Spirits has a good atmosphere but the food is meh. Sometimes have live music. They try too hard to be cool instead of making good food. You will leave drunk and hungry.
There’s 40 million Mexican restaurants and most of them are pretty good. I like El Paso and Pedro’s. Pedro’s is perfect for a big group
There’s a couple little fried fish spots that may be pretty good depending on the day. The old Robbie Gs changed names but I think it’s still kickin.
Diamond grill is a nice restaurant. Can’t remember the last time I ate there.
You can’t forget about Texas Roadhouse. Good luck getting in on a Friday night!!! That place is always poppin!
That’s all I got lol.

Mandarin for Chinese is pretty good, with a decent sushi bar. Spirits for casual American fare, may have a band on patio on Thursday evenings, they have heaters if cool. Veronas as mentioned. I enjoy it. Diamond Grill is hte better option for me between it and Hotel Bentley. Buckets is a seafood place over in PIneville that does a good job with fried seafood dishes, a basic fried seafood place. Pops in Alexandria is the new version of Robbie Gs, a very casual place but last year his gumbo was some of the best gumbo I have had at a restaurant but again, a hole in the wall kind of place. Mia Tierra or Rio Rojo for Mexican. Trios is a newer place with a nice menu and a tiny bit more upscale than most of our places. Really really good bar and drinks too. Bellinos for Italian used to be my favorite in town. But tried to eat there a couple months ago and it was dark, tables are like 8 feet apart, no waitresses came out just the guys from the kitchen. But every table was full and bar was packed to the fullest, so they must be doing a good job... after 15 minutes sitting there with no server, water and seeing a very limited menu we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. The food is probably still awesome, but just an odd vibe.

The owner is Albanian . I’m not really a fan of the food . They seem kind of shady .

Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30-9 PM. The menu is still very limited.

Well he claims to be italian, sounds very italian, and the family closes the restaurant in the summer every year to go back to italy. I'll take him at his word.

Try the cappacino or marsala. They also have good tuna and mushroom appetizers. Its not the finest dining in the world. Just your typical neighborhood italian. I like it every bit as much as Digiulio's here in baton rouge.

I've eaten or ordered from there at least 3 dozen times. I see the owner either cooking or greeting people every single time I go in. He's always running around sweating and chatting up people.

Yep you can tell they actually give a shite. That’s hard to find nowadays.

I love it.
I also love veronas. Their chicken cappuccino, chicken piccata, and even their basic pastas like Alfredo, manicotti, and spaghetti are all very good. No the best in the world but good enough for me to tell you how good they are.
In fairness, I don’t think I have ever eaten with someone who got the seafood ravioli (which always seems to be on special) and was happy with it.

Lol! I’ll bet I’ve been with at least 5 or 6 people who have gotten it and said that it was sub par. I’ve personally never had it though so I guess my actual opinion on it doesn’t count for anything.
I stand by their piccata and their cappuccino. As a matter of fact, the first time I ever had their piccata, I went home and tried every day for almost a week to replicate their butter wine sauce because it was 10/10 and I had never had that sauce before. I finally got close enough to declare victory but I still have days where I want someone else to make it.

We often get the picatta as well.

quote:I dont get that at all. And according to some of my New York Italian customers that used to come thru town they think the italian sausage app is as good as any they have ever had...for what that is worth. They insisted on going there every time in town. And if Tony isnt italian he sure as hell can sit down and fake it with these guys. I was completely out in the cold.

I may eat there tonight just because you seem to have a personal issue w the place. Prayers for me surviving meat being prepared near vegetables or the cook taking a drink of water.
Scroll down to number 5 you Verona lovers
