Neighbor has had two boils over the past couple of years and cuts oranges in half and throws them in...was not home for either boil so I do not know how it tasted...

I'll help. It tasted good. I do oranges, orange juice,lemon juice,lemons and/or grapefruit.Citrus of any type is a positive for your boil.

I think you may have cooked it too long. Try again, but only soak for about 7-8 minutes. Be sure it's fresh.

fresh sausage works well. only problem is it looks like the instestines of a dead animal floating around in the pot.

turkey necks would have to be boiled seperate since they can take up to 2 hours to get tender.
