I think when it comes to soft drinks, a lot of people have an aversion to what they're not used to.

I drank regular coke as a very young kid, but my mom switched to diet and it's all we had. Because diet is all I ever drank, I now hate regular coke. But since I used to love it, that kinda shows me that I just don't like it not tasting how I expect (like diet).

People from the South are used to drinking all Coke products. If you notice, a vast majority just in this thread said they hate Pepsi. I bet if they had been raised drinking Pepsi, they'd hate coke. It's a mental thing IMO (Although I do find they taste pretty different from one another)

I live in a Pepsi world. We sell Coke at our stores up here in Montana. Rarely does anyone care that we only have Coke products.

When I go out to eat and they only have Pepsi, I get water, and hesitant to return.

Businesses in the South that sell Pepsi do because Pepsi gave them one hell of a deal.
