Steel thickness does not provide insulation? News to me.

if you want to get in to semantics you can. the still thickness does give heat retention. but doesnt mean a smoker is insulated. insulated smokers have a material with a very low thermal conductivity around the metal shell.

Dont be that guy

Seems like you are being “that guy” arguing semantics, not him. Thicker steel holds heat better. Which I believe is the point both of y’all were trying to make.

Most people consider insulated smokers like the insulated vertical cabinets where there are insulation blankets installed. Or like a lot of people get now, insulated fireboxes. Shell, insulation blankets, and then the internal metal where the fire actually is.

Most tanks are 3/8" or better, that is what my 250 will be. 1000 gallon tanks can be thicker depending on the manufacturer.

Got frick all to do with wall thickness.

Is your house insulated? Uhhh...yeah. It's got plywood on the walls.

I insulated my smoker when I built it. It’s a vertical cabinet smoker. The inner walls are 1/8 plate. There is a layer of rock wool insulation inside and another layer of 1/8 plate on the outside.

Never been to Franklins but it’s on my bucket list.

And I was the a-hole because people here don't know proper terminology.
