As long as you have a fresh one, 3 months should be OK. But don't hang on to it much longer than that. I guess if you like more muted hops, it may be better for you to age it a bit.

I like hops, but am not a hophead. 2-12 oz bottles is not getting me worked up about potentially losing some aroma/hoppiness. As far as aging maltier stouts, etc I aged a Sweetwater Happy Endings bomber from 2009 and drank it last fall and it was excellent, better than the new releases. Have a 2-yr old DFH Theobroma 33.8oz that will be drunk this year and have had good results with numerous other high ABV bombers over the years, but, again, I don't generally buy IPA's for home consumption or storage. No one knows how a specific 6-pack or other is handled from the bottling line to the end customer anyway, can't say how many Abita 1/2 cases of canned beer I have seen stacked in stores without refrigeration in the past 4-months, and I see higher priced craft beers stored at room temp in stores all the time.

I had a Dogfish Head Burton Baton and a Stillwater Stateside Saison. Both were outstanding and I'm reviewing them on our site.
