Do I need to be sloshed out of my mind when I go to Stella! for my birthday next month??
Probably. Let the sommelier guide your party.

It is cool. But, a great glass of wine is IMO immeasurable to a great culinary experience.

Clancy's really did serve a good glass of wine (some kind of chardonnay for $7) - I don't know a damn thing about that stuff, but it was pretty memorable.
I may do one glass at Stella! just for the hell of it, since they seem to have stuff from all corners of the world.

The bar in the Ritz - the Library
Over a year ago I was told that this is now a private cigar lounge. Did this idea bust and it revert to a bar open to the public/hotel guests.

If you both do the $40 menu you could get out of there for $100 because August is also running a no corkage fee special.

I went to Pelican Club a couple of weeks ago and it was really good...except that I found everything to be a tad underseasoned. Here are my recommendations...
+1 Seafood Martini for App
+1 The Filet + crab/shrimp cake for entree
Coconut Cream Pie (was the best we had ever had! We couldn't stop talking about it)
The corkage fee at Pelican Club is $20.
Honestly....since August is not charging a corkage fee and PC is charging $20...I really think you could get out of August cheaper than PC and the special at August gives you an opportunity to dine there at a price that you won't see again until next summer.

Does anyone have a link for the August deal? It's not on the coolinary site.

Nothing on August's actual site either, but here's the lowdown:
Chef John Besh has unveiled a $40 tasting menu, a price that invites guests to indulge in a meal of a lifetime.
The special kicks off with a menu that’s pure Besh - contemporary French with accents of southern Louisiana:
Warm Salad of Pied du Veau with crispy veal sweetbreads and fresh hearts of palm;
Silver Queen Corn “Riz en Boule” with pecan wood bacon, cipollini and chanterelles;
Hand Rolled Spaghettini with clams, mussels & blue crab with spicy tomato and fresh basil;
Napoleon of Nougatine with Valhrona chocolate bavarois and salted toffee ice cream.
The tasting menu will change, as all do at August, according to the pick of seasonal produce.
It launches Friday, July 24 and continues through Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
The cost is $40 per person, tax and gratuity not included.
