Does anyone know a store in the Lafayette, BR, or GNO areas that carries the Vigo chicken soup base? I'd be willing to drive to the Northshore too. This is what it looks like: Chicken Soup Base

My mother prefers to use it in her chicken and okra gumbo instead of other stocks / bases, but hasn't been able to find it recently. My sister and I have been to various places, and we've found other Vigo products including the beef base, but not the chicken.

I figured I'd try the power of Tigerdroppings before ordering from their website... there's no way I'd spend enough to get free shipping, and it'd be cheaper to just drive somewhere instead of paying shipping.

Help a mother out, if you know where to find it. Thanks.

Looks like you can order it from the website and there's also a phone number in the Contact Us section you could call to see where they sell it close to you. I remember seeing at sometime in my life, but I've never bought or used it.

My Mom used to use Spice Islands chicken base and apparently, it's no longer sold.

Has she tried Better Than Bouillon?

That stuff's the best I've found.

She's not cooking any longer, but when I cook her recipes by request, she wants me to use what she used. I used BTB in it's place and it was fine, but I like the low sodium Minor's chicken base better. They are close in flavor.
I also like Minor's beef base for au jus and other things. I think that's what Picadilly used for their roast drippings. It tastes the same. We used to always get the rice there with the drippings from the roast and we'd sometimes buy a quart of the roast gravy to stretch ours.

Best in store for sure, but I recently bought this commercial brand, and it's awesome.

Minor's is really good and so are the other bases they sell. I've used the shrimp base for shrimp bisque. I used the turkey for gravy. The ham is good as well. It's pricey, but I keep the containers in the freezer, so they last a very long time. Once opened, I press plastic wrap against the base to keep air out so there's no freezer burn.

ETA: You can buy Minor's on Soupbase.com or Amazon carries some of them. Those are the only places at which I've purchased them.

That's kind of where we're at with my mom, but she still has a few things she wants to do.

She actually used to use Better than Bouillon, but she switched to the Vigo 20 years ago or so and that's what she prefers. I hate to pay $10 shipping on a $5 purchase, but that may be what we have to do.

Thanks, y'all.

These days, if Mom wants, we get it. She's nearly 92.
