Keep the heat in with aluminum foil.

I've cooked a lot of turkeys for Thanksgiving and I can't remember the last time is was not at least in the 70's at my house on that day.

I could possibly understand doing something like that if it was around freezing, but just how much time are you going to save even then????

Once that oil gets up to temperature, it's not hard to keep it there for the duration of cooking time.

So, like me, you also wear shorts in cold weather. I don't do Crocs but you will mostly find me in sandals or sneakers.

But, But, But------you say it's 24 in the morning, so why not have the pot clad in foil to save heat and cook faster???????

Must have been a short-lived freak cold front with all that green showing in your pic.

Always a smart idea to leave the lid on when boiling oil.
