According to our gardening journal, looks like we planted in the first week of October last year.
Our broccoli missed being ready for Thanksgiving dinner by one week. Greens did wonderfully. Beets and carrots, too. So I guess the timing was right.

Are those 1st year hops?
Yea, first year. I planted them in early March though. The Magnum and Chinook varieties are shooting up pretty good and are 8' tall. The Cascade is only abot 6" long.

Oh ok yeah you did get yours early. I have two chinooks that are about 12' tall. The cascades barely took off. One is about 4' and the other is 8' but tiny.
I'm glad they took off though and I'm sure they'll be good to go next year.

Awesome thread, some of y'all made some huge hauls of produce.
I'm very new to all of this, what would all of you recommend starting out with in the fall for a novice gardener?
Currently all I've started is a lime, lemon tree basil, oregono and some spearmint. Want to do tomatoes, jalapeños and avocado next season for sure.

Thats damn good growth. Are you fertilizing a lot? I put cow manure on about once every 10 days like I do my tomatoes.
Of course the soils in La >>>>>>>>>>>Dallas.
