I don’t get why people freak out about this one way or the other.
It’s just a double chicken sandwich with no bun.

Okay, after having a couple, I remembered that one of the things that made it so great 10 years ago is that it had the exact same sauce that they have at Canes. I know this because I have a friend who lived near where they make it in Auburn, AL.
KFC was contracting Guthrie’s to make the sauce??

They must have been, but I guess Cane's has since bought exclusive use of it or something because it's no longer in it. Look at the pics of the old DD and you can see the sauce in the middle. Now they just have some bland mayo in there.

I can't get on board with Canes letting another fast food place use their sauce.

Guthrie’s is the originator of that sauce (1982, in Auburn) . It was established well before Cane’s and Zaxby’s. All of those places sauces use the same base ingredients.
Even Jack’s has a version of the sauce now.
The irony is the tender might be the least flavorful part of the chicken, yet the most popular. Why??
Most portable, along with the chicken sandwich. Just a guess.

Popeyes needs to do this with their sandwich chicken breasts with red beans and slaw in middle
I’d be happy if they just brought back the chicken and red beans wrap
