Going to be in St Louis June 11 and looking for for a good place to eat dinner. Staying downtown near the arch. Never been before. Any suggestions? Always like a good steakhouse or seafood.

Try Charlie Gitto's on the hill. It was fantastic when we went there last summer.

If I were you I would definitely head to Bogart's or Pappy's (both BBQ). If you only get to choose one I'd probably do Bogart's.

Farmhaus is great as well, and for pasta I agree with Blutarski, we have done Charlie Gitto's on the hill, and if the weather is nice they have a great patio.

If you want old school steakhouse, Tony's is probably your best bet.

Finally, if you want pizza, Pi has a location in walking distance from the arch. It's fairly expensive for pizza, but great stuff.

Oh, and FYI: Top 100 restaurants in St. Louis (according to the Post-Dispatch)

Citizen Kane's in Kirkwood was rated as a top 20 steakhouse in the country at one time. I've heard nothing but great things about it. But you will be paying like you're eating at a top 20 steakhouse in the country.

Peacemaker Lobster and Crab is probably the top spot for seafood. It's much closer to downtown as well. The chef/owner is James Beard nominated and once worked in the kitchen at Commander's Palace in NOLA. They make twice daily trips to Lambert airport to pick up fresh fish to serve at the restaurant.

Farmhaus is a great restaurant. The BBQ recs are on point as well.

Also, any of Gerard Craft's joints are great (Niche, Braisserie, Taste).

Might also check out one of David Bailey's joints. Rooster and Bailey's Range are both good.

St. Louis has lots of really, really good food and drinks right now.

....... No.

Guido's on the Hill is my go-to spot for STL-style pizza. Carmine's is good downtown. If you're in South City, check out Russell's on Macklind and grab a night cap and the Famous Bar.

Just an FYI, Niche is closing on June 11 to make way for a new restaurant by the same chef, so don't plan on going there. LINK

The city has always been criminally underrated as a food destination.

Downtown is still pretty desolate compared to a lot of other cities, but once you get out into the different neighborhoods, the area bars and restaurants are all very good.

I was in town for a deposition a while back and ate at Al's down on the riverfront. It was a neat old place with great ambiance and the food was good. Very traditional white-tablecloth steakhouse with tableside preparation.
