Any personal favorite spicy rib rubs you guys use?

I do the 2-1-1 method and when wrapping I add the brown sugar and honey to give the sweet.

Thinking I need to add a little more heat to my dry rub to balance

I would start by dropping the honey and brown sugar and just add apple juice when wrapping. If that doesn't get you where you like to be, add a pinch of cayenne to your rub.

Excellent advice.

Why add brown sugar when you wrap them? That's where the good bark could come from on the top of the rack. just pick either brown sugar or honey. Not both

I get everyone backing off the two sugars when wrapping and I may stick to honey.

However little confused on what you are asking. Obviously during the first hour of smoke the sugars in the rub are forming the bark. By the time I wrap I already have good bark, but had started adding sugars/butter in the foil for taste and tenderness. Adding brown sugar in the foil has never messed up the bark. Obviously following the 2-1-1, it firms back up anyways.

It may not be the heat you are looking for but look up Memphis Magic Dust recipe, I would think if you added a teaspoon of cayenne it would do the trick for you.
