Want to smoke some beef other than brisket and found this roast on sale. 2.5 lbs and pretty lean. Will it be a hunk of shoe leather?

Don't know that I'd smoke it, but it would be fine in a crockpot.

if you smoke it you will have to slice super thin (like maybe with an electric knife) and put it on sandwich

I do those pretty regular on the smoker. I dry rub it and let it sit in the fridge overnight. It smokes for a cpl hours over oak. I put it in a small foil pan with some beef broth and dry rub combined. Cover it up with foil and put it back in for a cpl hours until tender. Like Madam said, slice it up thin for sandwiches. It's very good.
