Ok for 5lbs.
Pull the heads off. It won't take long and the shrimp will absorb more flavor.
Here's what I use.
5lbs shrimp
1 gal water
6 to 7 tblsp zatarains pro boil or whatever you like.
2 tblsp liquid boil
1 boil bag seasoning
4 tbsp lemon juice
Bring the water to a boil with all the seasonings. Dump in the shrimp. You don't have to bring the water back to a full boil but leave the heat on for a few more minutes. Turn the heat off. Throw some frozen water bottles in the pot to cool the shrimp and soak for about 20 to 25 minutes.

Do you throw the heads in to boil for any extra flavor or is it not worth it?

2 gallons water, 1/2 cup of powder crab boil, 2TBS of liquid. Bring your water to a boil, add some lemon juice or fresh lemons, when they float, cut the fire, when they sink, take them out.

I see your point with that but I don't do it.
