I'm going to Larose in a little while...... you made up my mind.
My PawPaw would drive from Chauvin to Collins to get oysters. He's did from early 70s till he passed away.

I'm getting a 1/2 sack to shuck at our tailgate for the Alabama game (I do it every year for either Alabama other November game).
I've gotten some from Tony's but lots were dead. Last year I drove to Metairie and got some from Denny's. Those were very good, but still quite a few dead ones.
I was thinking if I got them off the boat they'd be freshest. Maybe Houma (I saw tags on the ones I got from Tony's that they came from Houma), but no idea where to go. I don't mind driving down to get them.
I will need to pick them up late Friday evening (don't get off work until 5:00).
Any idea how fresh they are from Collins?

The one's I got from Collins came from the boat to my ice chest.
The one draw back is they are muddy. They need to be washed before opening.

I went to go to Collins last Friday. I called them at 3 and he said they didn't have any and they didn't really didn't "open" till Nov. I let him know that I had an envee for some oysters and I had to get my fix. He said to call back at 4:30-5 that he was waiting for his brother to come in with some. I got busy helping out with a friend, ran out of time and didn't call. He did tell me they were $40 a sack.
I can tell you that every time I've ever bought from them they were good. Although as rodnreel mentioned they tend to be a little dirty. I just dump them on the concrete and spray them with the hose then ice them down in an ice chest.
