Don't give up on it yet. Cover it well and add some red wine, beer, mushrooms, garlic and parlsey. Simmer it another 2 hours until it falls apart.

I like rump roast, roasted at 325 till Med rare...then remove let rest. Cooked uncovered liberally seasoned with salt and pepper.

Remove from iron skillett and use a little flour and stock to make a dark gravy from drippings.

Serve with mashed potatos, purple hulls and cornbread or biscuits.

Ate it every Sunday for my childhood.

Miss it now.

Try browning it on the stove top. That'll give ya a crusty layer on the outside then stick it in the oven or crock pot.

Well, the roast is ruined but the gravy is still good. Will cut up the roast for dog food. Thank goodness it was very small...cost about 7 bucks.

I've never cooked one uncovered in the oven.
I have cooked them in the crock pot and it always came out tender but not carmelized.

Will try again next week with another small one till I get it right.

Whoa...just had a redemption. I gave up on the rump roast so I cut it up into bite sized pieces for the dogs. Put it in the oven on a tin pie dish at 200. Then took a nap.

Woke up an hour later and the stuff tastes great....really tender. Dogs are pissed off.
