Not for me. It's my entree. Roast is the side. I fix a bowl of rice and gravy, heavy on the gravy, just like I do gumbo. Sometimes, I chop up some roast and throw it in.
I like both and will eat both at any time. Two of my favorite meals.

NOT in South Louisiana. Rice & gravy is the main staple & the meat & veggies are the sides. Hell, there are times I'd rather just the rice & gravy & leave the meat & veggies off the plate completely.

Pretty much this. Even when it's roast, rice, and gravy, I dish the roast on top. The rice & gravy is not an afterthought.
