I'll be there this weekend for a conference. Not looking to drive far from the Avalon conference center. TIA

The Alpharetta Wild Wing Cafe is extra trashy and still allows smoking at the bar last I was there, but best booze and wings place in the area. I always hit it up when I'm there for a concert at the ampitheater. If I were leaving an all day conference and wanted to drink and eat wings and see some football on a hundred screens, that would be my go-to.

Cue is pretty decent for BBQ. Not far from the Avalon. Not a big fan of their brisket, but everything else is good.
Loyal Q is also quite good for BBQ. I like their brisket.
El Trompo is good, authentic Mexican. Not fancy, but really good Mexican.
Madras Chettinaad is not bad for Indian
Ray's at Killer Creek is good for steaks and more upscale stuff.
Lots of restaurants in Alpharetta/John's Creek area.

Slopes BBQ is also in the area. It's been around forever and also has vegetables, like a meat and 3 type place. Not fancy, but a locals type place.

You'll have plenty of options at Avalon, many of them decent. Downtown Alpharetta isn't far and is easy to walk around in (and drink on the streets at) with a lot of restaurant options to pick from.
At Avalon:
Rumi's Kitchen is very good Persian food in an upscale setting.
Superica is tex mex I like quite a bit. Opinions of Atlantans vary, obviously, but it's a good enough local tex-mex chain that it successfully expanded to Houston, FWIW
There is an Antico (pizza) there too, generally Atlanta's most highly regarded pizza spot (there are a couple of them around). Portnoy gave it an 8.3 (diff location) if that tells you anything.
Downtown Alpharetta:
Crust is a pizza/pasta spot that is always slammed and is just good quality/good service.
Lapeer, the steakhouse is pretty solid.
I like Central City Tavern, which is sort of a little dive/beer place below Jekyll Brewing with what I think is pretty good bar food. Jekyll Brewing has food and rooftop stuff and is solid.

Used to go to Jerusalem Bakery for lunch a lot and the Chicken Shwarmas were good. They were always busy at lunch. My wife and I went in there one day about 2, They had three people up front and about half a dozen tables. The person by the register saw us, and went back to the kitchen The two guys working the line looked at us and went back to what they were doing. One of them walked by us to go to the kitchen. We stood there for about 10 minutes, but no one would wait on us. I guess my wife should have had on a hijaab, like the other women in there. We left. If they don't want to serve us, fine there are other places to eat.
