A perfectly cooked strip is my favorite cut.

I’ve grown to like a well cooked strip too. Fresh Market occasionally will put them on sale at a decent price if you buy the whole strip. They will cut it up for you to your specifications and grind what’s left into hamburger meat. I’ll usually buy 2-3 of the Premium Choice grade and vacuum seal the steaks. In an effort to save a little money I actually have grown to like the cut. Generally I’ve always preferred a ribeye most of my life but a quality strip cooked properly is a tasty bite of steak.

OP my strips I buy look a lot different than the one you have. I’m no butcher but I believe the person that said your steak should have never been sold as a NY Strip is 100% right. The strips I buy seem to run more narrow in width thus the name strip seems pretty accurate.

FYI, Rouses has never been known for quality meat

I don't know about the rest of Rouses store but the one in Zachary is dogshit for steaks. They had bone in "Prime" ribeye at 24.99 lb a few months ago. No marbling whatsoever and I would say it was select meat. I called the manager out on it. I won't buy steaks from them.

NY Strip is almost always a tradeoff. It is very flavorful, but rarely tender.
Every now and then you run across one, but if given a choice, I will always choose ribeye or tenderloin over NY strip.
