I leave my house when smoking stuff. So for me it is worth it. I can open the app on my phone and check the temps.
You can also download the data and graphs after a cook if you are interested in things like that.
If you don't ever leave your house and your receiver is always in communication with the base, or you don't care about graphs and charts then no need to have it.

I've had a cheaper Thermopro that works pretty well but have had to order new probes 3 times. It's now starting to have issues pairing between main unit and remote display. Looks like it's time to upgrade for a good price.
I wish the Smoke worked with the new Thermoworks "Billows" temp. control fan.

I bought my Smoke in April of 2017 and still am using the original probes and I use them a lot.
ETA: Yeah, that would be nice. I have the oldschool Pitmaster IQ. I have had to replace the probe on it 2 times, but it works really well otherwise. I have had it for years.

For that price you can get an assembled heatermeter, case, and probably the fan and probes.

Have the Smoke but just ordered the Inkbird off of Amazon as it is 4 probes. Everyone on other boards seem to love the Inkbird.
