Christmas shopping. Looking for my first burner, Ive always borrowed. Can I get away with just one? Looking for cooking soups and cast iron / jambalaya so I would like control. Maybe 2x-3x a year boils. $150 budget.

I was looking at Bayou Classic KAB6, 30psi banjo. Seems like Id have good heat control. How well would it do boiling 60qt / 1 sack and fixings? If so, would smaller diameter like KAB4 handle 60qt?

My experience with those banjo burners you have linked is that they burn a LOT of fuel. I have one and I've had to modify it to suit my liking. I cut the welds that hold the wind screen and made it so that I can slide it up and down, closer or further away from the pot.

I haven't found that it heats the water up for a crawfish boil as fast as a single "jet burner" does.

IMO.... those 2 burners [165,000 BTU] would be great for boiling crawfish, but not good jambalaya or frying fish.

To cook a jambalaya you need a small burner. I bought a 38,000 BTU [?] burner and it is almost too big to fry fish. I have to keep the flame very low or the oil gets too hot.

I can boil crabs in a small pot [about 15 crabs] and it does fine. I have a larger burner for when I need it.
