But I bring the oven to 500* and cook for 5 minutes a pound then turn the oven off for 2 hrs (do not open the door!) or until my
Internal is at 118-120* medium rare
I've done this method about 5 times and it's perfect every time. America's Test Kitchen did a feature on it.
ETA no need to rest it using this method, it rests as part of the cooking process. Take out of the oven at time and slice immediately.

I've never done one entirely in the oven
I'm planning on removing the bones. Dry brine for 24 hours. Coarse black pepper. Roast at 200 until an internal temperature reaches 120. Rest, covered for about 20 minutes. Finish under the broiler for 3-4.
We'll see.

I did the 500* for 5 minutes per pound today. This was my first prime rib and it came out perfect.
Thanks guys.

I smoke my prime ribs.
I do one for Thanksgiving every year.
Smoke to 115 internal temp with a drip pan under it with a bottle of red wine and a chopped onion.
Let it rest and add some more broth to the drip and and reduce that by half.

I did my first one today, as well. I trimmed a lot of fat off last night and covered it with salt. Be generous with the salt. Covered and let it sit in fridge overnight.
This morning, took it out and let it sit to get to room temp. Made a rub with soft butter, rosemary, thyme, and black pepper. Rubbed the whole thing and put in over at 200 until internal temp was 115 degrees. Then took it out, tented and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Cranked my grill to 500 and put it back in to get a char on the outside. Took it out after about 8 minutes. Sliced immediately. Turned out perfect.
Only thing I wished I'd done differently was made a hollandaise to go with it. Hope yours turned out well.
