Just got back from Sonny's. It was as good as ever. Got the AYCE dry rub ribs w/ 2 sides and Texas toast for $13.99, with a sweet tea. I ate more than a full rack. Didn't care for their coleslaw but everything else was good. Was kinda bummed that their salad bar wasn't as massive as it used to be.

If you got an actual BBQ sandwich from Jays BBQ, that would be a first.

Apparently you never saw their old salad bar, my friend. It was glorious.

It's chopped brisket and sauce on a bun. Is there something I'm missing here?

I don't think it's much like the smoked brisket I get at Whole Foods, for example, which I can enjoy with or without sauce. I find Jay's beef poboy has to be drowned in sauce to be edible. I can enjoy it once in a while, but when I'm craving "BBQ," Jay's does not come to mind. Jay's is its own thing.

To be fair, I've only had the beef and ham poboys. I only tried the ham once. We always got the poboys, I guess because of the way they press the bread. That's what "Jay's" means to me. I loved the place growing up, but nowadays, I doubt I go more than once every couple of years.

It's a chopped beef sandwich. I didn't say Aaron Franklin was back there cooking it. I like the old Hi Ho in Hammond for what it is but I don't think I'll be reminded of Lockhart.

Yeah I saw that. Wonder how long he'll be closed. And those $200k and $150k estimates are what his coverage was.

Podnuh's is good. But the portions are a joke. $20 for a 3 meet lunch and I ended up going to Costco to fill up on samples.
